A pastiche based on Pergolesi’s La serva padrona with additional selections from Donizetti and added dialogue. Set in an (Italian) restaurant. Performed at “Italia Mia” in 2020 and broadcast as an “opera-film” for RTHK.

Rita” by Gaetano Donzetti

With a new score for chamber ensemble by Marco Iannelli. Performed at the 2020 “Italia Mia” and the 2021 Cosmopolis Festival and broadcast as an opera-film for RTHK. This production was adopted by the Guangzhou Opera House where it ran for 15 performances in 2022. It was reprised in a new production for Opera Hong Kong and performed at the Shaw Auditorium in 2023.

Pomme d’Api” by Jacques Offenbach

Reset in contemporary Hong Kong as a play within a play, with new dialogue, some adapted lyrics and two additional arias from Pépito and La Périchole, Pomme d’Api was performed at the 2022 French May, with two additional concert performances at the Peninsula Hotel. It has been chosen by the Guangzhou Opera House for the 2023 season and will be part of the Croisements Festival, for which Marco Iannelli is composing a new score for chamber ensemble.

Il segreto di Susanna” by Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari

Reset in Hong Kong during the roaring ’20s, Il segreto di Susanna was performed at the Asia Society in 2022 in a co-production with the Dante Alighieri Society.

Le docteur Miracle” by Georges Bizet

Reset in contemporary Hong Kong, Le docteur Miracle was developed for Opera Hong Kong in cooperation with HKUST and performed at the Shaw Auditorium in 2023 as part of the French May Arts Festival. A new, expanded fairy-tale version has been running at the Guangzhou Opera House since 2024.

Scènes de la vie de bohème” by Giacomo Pucci

This intimate dramatic adaptation of Giacomo Puccini’s classic opera has been reduced to the four principal roles to focus on the emotional ties between the two couples. It debuted in April 2024 in a run of special performances on Hong Kong’s iconic Star Ferry in a new production developed for The Peninsula Hong Kong and Dante Alighieri Society to commemorate the Puccini centenary. It was also performed at Hong Kong’s Polytechnic University in November 2024.

Le toréador” by Adolphe Adam

This ménage–a–trois between an erstwhile soprano, her oft–absent and unfaithful husband and a previous lover features famous variations on the folk–song Ah! vous dirai–je, maman (better known as Twinkle, twinkle, little star in the English–speaking world). Resets in contemporary Hong Kong as The Triad, or Three in Accord (retaining the musical pun in the original French title Le toréador, ou L’accord parfait), this was performed for the French May Arts Festival in 2024 at the Asia Society.

Carmen Wong” by Georges Bizet

A new adaption of George Bizet’s iconic opera set in a Hong Kong of the 1970s. Developed for the French May and as part of the “Carmen 2025” programme celebrating the opera’s 150th anniversary. Premiering at the Hong Kong Peninsula, Carmen Wong had two staged performances at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in October 2025 and will be produced by the Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Xi’an Conservatories starting in December 2025.

Duetto

Premiered in Macau at the Teatro Dom Pedro V, an integrated double bill with La serva padrona as Act I and Il segreto di Susanna as Act II.
